Biography

Tomas Dalton studied voice and piano at the Melbourne Conservatorium before undertaking further study in Italy courtesy of the Acclaim Awards Fellowship, Johnson Bequest, and AOAC Opera Award.

He has been critically acclaimed for his “commanding” and “refined” performances, and his “attractive voice and warmth of tone.”

​

For Opera Australia Tomas has sung numerous roles, with recent highlights including: Alfredo Germont in Verdi’s La traviata, and Rinuccio in Puccini’s Gianni Schicci. He has also recently understudied Rodolfo in Puccini’s La bohème, and Pinkerton in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly on Sydney Harbour.

Tomas has sung a number of roles for Victorian Opera, including The Witch in Humperdinck’s Hansel & Gretel, and has performed Tony Candolino in the Australian tour of Terrence McNally’s Master Class, Pinkerton in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly for The Stonnington Classics, Tybalt in Romeo et Juliette and Malcolm in Macbeth for State Opera South Australia. Tomas has also created roles in the world premiers of Ioannidis’s Women in War and Kats-Chernin’s Whiteley. 
 

Tomas’s concert repertoire includes Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, and Mozart’s Requiem, and his recent Verdi Requiem debut was reviewed for its “radiant tone and natural delivery”.
